Lindsay Brainard got the job at Calvin College.

Myles

She seems to have received many fellowships, although no publication so far.

Kuno

And gender quotas certainly had no role in her being awarded those fellowships. Nope, none at all.

David Faraci got an offer from Durham.

It's about time he got something! Woo hoo!

Anyone know about UBC?

It's in Vancouver... near a nude beach

Anyone know about UBC?

Alonzo

I think the logic post is still undecided. The senior post is going to Stanley.

Thomas

Wait, so does anyone know if Rice actually manage to hire someone this year?

Pope

8 day(s) ago

Does anyone know if MUW has made an offer? TIA

For real?

Yale to UBC is a weird move. You lose prestige, better colleagues, and proximity to the NJ/NYC philosophy scene for better views and not being in the United States. Doesn’t seem worth it.

On the other hand, Sextus, your child is dramatically less likely to be shot. And Vancouver has much more going for it than better views!

"not being in the United States"

Who wants to be in the United States right now??

Nishida

Not me! The SJWs have made it completely unbearable. I just don't know where to go...

Yes, 1/1,000,000 << 1/5,000,000.

It's maybe weird prestige-wise, but it's not a bad bet. That department has a fuckton of money and admin backing, and their profile is quickly rising. They're in poaching mode, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them posing a serious challenge to Toronto by 2030.

And yeah, I think Dong et al are right: Canada is by and large way nicer than the US, especially its major cities. Especially if you have children, and if they're non-white. Vancouver itself is majority non-white, which might well be a factor. Plus the climate is nice, if you don't like winter. Stanley already has the reputation and money he needs to participate regularly in the east coast scene.

Additionally, that’s Canada Research Chair, guys! Tons of money is waiting for him!

I think there are two main things holding UBC back in the rankings: (1) it's a Canadian school, and (2) it's pretty weak in history (especially non-Ancient) and ethics/meta-ethics. The second problem is easy to overcome, and doesn't seem to hold back many US departments. The first will pretty much always be a strike against it, rankings-wise.

Canadian here. Canada is nice, no doubts about it, but winter is long and cold. Vancouver is not so bad weather-wise, but these days I would really like to move south. I guess the grass is greener on the other side for everyone.

Eduard

Well, it's a low-teaching load open/open at what amounts to a SLAC. Is it that surprising?

Anyone know if Manchester’s emailed longlisted candidates?

Thomas

David Faraci got an offer from Durham.

Günter

This is simply not accurate. Durham offered the job to Allan Gibbard (who has family in the area) and he accepted.

Hilde

Except, you're overlooking the fact that they had two jobs this year. Faraci definitely got an offer from Durham, and I'm pretty sure is taking it.
